Did you know that Basilica dei Frari (shortly called ‘Frari‘) is the biggest church in Venice?
It is placed in the Campo dei Frari, in the Sestiere of San Polo and it is dedicated to Assumption of Maria.
If you have never been here I suggest to visit it… I always take my friends here and it has always a lot of success, not only for the dimensions, but for the art that it contains.
Let’s talk of the outside of the church : it is a classic example of Gothic style and the dimensions are 102 m of length for 32 m of width, and the height of the central nave is 28 m.
Anyway the inside is very rich ! You can find paintings, sculptures and monuments of very important artists like Tiziano and it hosts many funeral monuments of important people linked to Venice like Claudio Monteverdi, Tiziano (that as you know is a very important Venetian artist) and Canova.
Canova’s tomb is one of my favorite monuments in this amazing church, I really like the style and if you want to know more about this amazing artist, discovering his style and his personality, I suggest you a small trip outside Venice, in Possagno, where it is placed the Canova’s Museum .
I have to be honest, maybe I’m not the most qualified person for talking about art and printings, but this church is wonderful and you have to visit it!

- from Monday to Saturday : 09:30 – 12:30 / 15:00 – 18:00
- Sunday : 13:00- 18:00
