Few places share the history and beauty of “Punta della Dogana”, literally translated Custom Point.

From the XVth century, it hosted the customs of Venice, while the present building was completed in 1682. According to the tales, it was possible to hear the voices of the
merchants screaming among the hustle and bustle of the movement of goods. Venice has been for centuries a maritime republic founded on the trades of goods and spices. This place was at the very heart of this activity.

The place was strategically placed where the two big canals , “Canal Grande” and “Canale della Giudecca”, merge.

What remains of all this? Nowadays, the custom is no longer here, instead, its ancient palace hosts a museum.

Certainly, what does remain is the history and beauty of this place. In the evening, when the light goes down, the reflection create on the water creates a special atmosphere. Many people just sit down on the edge and watch St. Mark’s and “Palazzo Ducale” on the other side of Canal Grande from a very different angle, which is worth every minute you will spend there.

Our advice is to enjoy this view at sunset, take at least half an hour for yourself, sit down and watch the boats coming and going, preferably with a glass of Prosecco bought in a Bar nearby.

Trust us, we spent a whole night relaxing and sleeping there 😉
